Coated sheet metal is a common name for electro-galvanized sheets or strips made of cold-rolled low-carbon steel, which are coated on both sides with commercial pure zinc or another metal (aluminum, silicon, magnesium). Galvanization means adding an outer surface layer to the sheet or other material using hydrolysis. The primary purpose of this process is to protect metals from corrosion.

Depending on the production method, galvanized sheet metal can be divided into:
> hot-dip galvanized sheet > electro-galvanized sheet.

Hot-dip galvanizing means that after pre-treatment, the coil is immersed in liquid metallic zinc to adhere a zinc protective layer to the steel surface, thereby improving the material’s corrosion resistance and enhancing its properties.

Electro-galvanizing (cold) consists of creating a smooth and dense metal coating on the plate through electrolysis.

Our suppliers – Italian service centers – slit and cut to length coated coils delivered from European steel mills into smaller coils, sheets, blanks, and strips in a wide range of formats. The technological development of the companies and careful selection of raw materials allow us to guarantee the excellent quality of the supplied products.

Types of coated materials:

  • Electrolytically coated – electro-galvanized (+ZE)
  • Continuously coated with zinc (+Z), aluminum-zinc (+AZ), aluminum-silicon (+AS), or
    zinc-magnesium coating (+ZM)

The application of zinc and magnesium alloy (+ZM) is also suitable for particularly aggressive environments, such as marine environments. Various appearance and surface treatment options are available for each product category.

Surface protection:

  • “C” – chemically passivated; the surface is coated with a temporary protective agent that induces self-passivation, i.e., the coating’s own protection.
  • “O” – oiled surface; the surface is treated with non-corrosive and uncontaminated oil in various amounts (generally between 0.5 and 2 g/m2).
  • “CO” – a combination of the two protections mentioned above.
  • “S” – also AFP (Anti-Finger Print). The surface is protected by a thin, transparent organic film.

The surface of coated materials can also be without surface protection, but we do not offer such surfaces.

NOTICE: please state the requirement for the surface of coated materials with care – whether it is a surface MA C = M (minimized spangle) A (standard surface) C (passivated), or MC C = M (minimized spangle) C (high-quality surface) C (passivated), and others.

Hot-coated materials require dry storage conditions and a suitably controlled environment due to their sensitivity to oxidation between coil wraps or sheets. The materials can be easily surface-painted and are well-weldable; however, verification of these properties is the responsibility of the buyer, not the supplier.

Thickness of coated materials:

  • hot-dip galvanizing from 0.4 to 4 mm
  • aluminum-zinc, aluminum-silicon, zinc-magnesium coating from 0.4 to 3 mm, our range is mainly from 0.5 to 2 mm thickness.

TYPES OF SUPPLIED COATED MATERIALS:

COLD-ROLLED ELECTRO-GALVANIZED MATERIALS – ZINCOR:

Electro-galvanized steels have mechanical properties similar to low-carbon steels for cold forming, which, thanks to their flexibility and ductility, are particularly suitable for cold forming.

Surface treatments for electrolytically coated materials:

  • “A” – basic (minor defects allowed, such as scratches, pores, color variations)
  • “B” – improved (one side must have a surface suitable for applications requiring a high-quality coating, free of defects).

The surface has a homogeneous finish with possible color deviations, without a specific roughness value.

USE FOR SPECIFIC APPLICATIONS WITH HIGH-QUALITY PAINT MUST BE SPECIFIED AT THE TIME OF ORDER.

Products can be supplied with various surface treatments such as oiling, passivation, phosphating, and their combinations. The most commonly used products include only passivation “C” – hot-dip galvanized materials, or passivation and phosphating “PC” – for electro-galvanized (+ZE). To ensure adequate product protection, delivery and storage must be indoors.

CONTINUOUS HOT-DIP ZINC-COATED MATERIALS (+Z) – GALVANIZED:

Hot-dip galvanized steels are immersed in liquid 99% zinc, where a protective alloy layer adheres to the surface, improving the material’s resistance to oxidation.

The thickness of the zinc on the surface usually ranges from 100 to 350 g/m2, although thicknesses up to 600 g/m2 or lower (80, 90 g/m2) are available. The specific weight of zinc is 7.1 g/m2 x every micron of coating.

Surface appearance:

  • “N” – normal spangle, without restriction on the size of the zinc spangle, which is no longer used today.
  • “M” – minimized spangle. Small spangle, in some cases so small that it becomes invisible to the eye; the standard does not define a dimensional limit.

Surface treatments:

  • “A” standard surface with permitted imperfections, such as small zinc lumps, indentations, scratches, small pits, differences in appearance, dark spots, passivation spots. The surface can be supplied with light skin-passing or in the as-galvanized state at the manufacturer’s discretion. Thinner materials are mostly only galvanized, thicker ones from 2 mm usually have a skin-passed surface. This can vary – it can be matte, semi-matte to glossy; painting is not recommended. SPECIFIC SURFACE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE CLARIFIED WHEN PLACING THE ORDER.
  • “B” – improved surface obtained by light skin-passing, with possible slight imperfections such as spots, light scratches, light passivation spots; not perceptible to the touch. In this surface treatment, we only have thicknesses of 1 – 1.5 mm available, others on request. The surface is
    matte, suitable for painting.
  • “C” – high-quality surface obtained by light skin-passing, practically without defects perceptible to the touch. The surface is opaque and controlled, suitable for the application of high-quality coating. Our suppliers do not keep this surface treatment in stock; we supply it only to order.
