COLD-ROLLED STEEL

➜ thickness from 0.4 to 3 mm

With a high yield strength for cold forming, it is characterised by minimum guaranteed values of ductility, fracture and elongation.

This steel is well suited to cold forming, from bending to pressing, while maintaining high strength values; it is suitable for producing durable and resilient parts in complex, lightweight shapes, and during the cold-forming process their thickness decreases. It is widely used in the automotive industry and in racking manufacture.

Low-carbon cold-rolled steels for deep drawing or cold bending: DC01 (full range), DC03, DC04, DC05, DC06 (limited range)

Cold-rolled steels with high yield strength for cold forming: HC260LA, HC300LA, HC340LA, HC380LA, HC420LA (limited range)

HOT-ROLLED STEEL – BLACK OR PICKLED

➜ thickness from 1.5 to 5 mm in coil or strip
➜ thickness from 1.5 to 25 mm in sheet.

For “black-rolled” products, the surface appears opaque, non-homogeneous and characterised by a light layer of surface oxides that give different colours from blue to black, including possible red oxidation; before proceeding with surface treatments such as painting or hot-dip galvanizing, pickling or sandblasting is recommended.

For pickled products, the surface, which is usually supplied with a variable layer of protective oil, appears opaque and uniformly grey. The surface of hot-rolled products shows roughness with undefined values and allows the presence of surface defects (such as small cavities, pores, imprints, scratches, transverse folds from packaging, colour variations), which, however, do not damage tools or jeopardise welding success.

Requirements for a specific application must take this product characteristic into account and, where necessary, ensure appropriate surface treatment;
these are not products suitable for applications with high aesthetic value (e.g., chrome plating or high-quality painting) without appropriate surface preparation.

HOT-ROLLED PRODUCTS ARE GENERALLY GALVANIZABLE AND WELDABLE; THIS REQUIREMENT MUST BE SPECIFIED WHEN ORDERING.

Structural steel is the most widely used of the various types, used primarily in construction, structures and engineering in general. It is particularly suitable for withstanding static loads and is therefore widely used especially in these important sectors.

APPLICATIONS OF STRUCTURAL STEEL:

  • civil construction
  • steel structures
  • various sheet-metal works
  • tanks
  • machine manufacturing

CORTEN STEEL:

It is steel resistant to atmospheric corrosion; it is a special steel used mainly in construction.

  • COR-TEN® A/COR-TEN®
or equivalent. Cold-rolled steel with maximum aesthetic results in lightweight structures such as architectural façades.
  • S355J0WP+AR/CORTEN
equivalent to CORTEN A. Hot-rolled steel with excellent corrosion protection thanks to the addition of phosphorus and with excellent aesthetic properties.
  • S355J2W+N/CORTEN
equivalent to CORTEN B. Hot-rolled steel; the addition of vanadium gives it increased mechanical strength and good protection against atmospheric corrosion.

Thanks to alloying elements that contribute to the formation of a permanent, self-renewing protective surface patina with a typical brown colour, CORTEN steel combines mechanical strength with exceptionally high resistance to atmospheric corrosion—up to 8 times higher than standard structural steel.

CORTEN sheet allows you to avoid galvanizing costs, and CORTEN steel sheets, if passivated/painted, reduce product maintenance costs to a minimum, as they are made of high-strength steel and protect themselves against corrosion resulting from scratches and chips in the paint layer. These steels generally do not require surface protection, except for use in particularly aggressive environments, e.g., by the sea.

The name CORTEN STEEL is derived from its main properties – high CORrosion resistance + TENsile strength – high mechanical strength.

To initiate the self-passivation and self-protection process of the surface, this product category requires exposure of the finished product to natural atmospheric cycles alternating wet and dry periods. Otherwise, use in a corrosive environment where exposure to the described dry/wet cycles is not possible will lead to the onset of corrosion of the product.
In such cases, it is necessary to ensure alternating dry and wet cycles before using (processing) the product.

APPLICATIONS OF CORTEN STEEL:

  • flue gas exhaust pipes
  • chimneys
  • freight wagons
  • containers and silos
  • bridges
  • decorative and architectural structures
  • curtain wall façades (construction)
  • guardrails and road barriers (motorways)

  • S500MC
Microalloyed steel for cold forming and bending; minimum yield strength: RE 500 MPa, tensile strength: RM 550–700 MPa.

Microalloyed steel is particularly suitable for withstanding cold forming and bending, and is therefore used mainly in the sectors listed below.

APPLICATIONS OF MICROALLOYED STEEL:

  • chassis and stamped parts for vehicles
  • trucks and trailers
  • industrial racking
  • agricultural machinery

HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL:

It is steel with a high yield strength. The exceptionally high yield strength and toughness of these steels allow the use of significantly smaller thicknesses than standard steel for the same performance.

  • S700MC
Low-alloy steel for cold forming, with high strength and excellent load-bearing capacity. It ensures lightness, strength and high durability of the finished product; it is used in the construction of cranes, telescopic booms and chassis.

The main characteristics of high-strength steel are: lower weight, increased load capacity, low maintenance requirements and longer product service life. In addition, its fine-grained microstructure ensures high cold formability and excellent weldability.

APPLICATIONS OF HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL:

  • beams and chassis for goods transport
  • crane booms and heavy lifting structures
  • buckets, excavators and booms for earthmoving machines
  • bridges and road overpasses
  • highly loaded industrial structures

STEEL FOR PRESSURE VESSELS:

It is steel resistant at any temperature. Pressure vessel steel is used for all applications where the internal pressure is higher than atmospheric pressure. Its main characteristic is, of course, resistance to pressure at any temperature.

  • P265GH / P265NH / ASME SA516 Gr.60
Minimum yield strength: ~ REH 265/275 MPa,
tensile strength: ~ RM 410/510 MPa.
